The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly? And what does it all have to do with a piece of land once known as Sycamore Row?
My Thoughts:
M a die hard fan of John Grisham. How could he do this to his fans? How could he disappoint us sooo much? This book was so slow and boring unlike others. This is a sequel to his best selling novel, "Time to Kill". I didnt understand why did he had to go back in 80's? How many of us had phones and cars back then? Anyways, Ending was powerful, I was completely hooked.But if u ask me what happen in between? I'd barely remember. It was too long n too detailed. Chapters which lead to the final chapters was tedious. There was nuthing in between that prepares u to the trail chapters.
In short, First quarter of the book gets u hooked up, middle chapters let u down n lost, Final chapter put to back together and makes sense. I wont recommend this book to any person whose not a fan of John Grisham. But JG fans can get away with few glitches, like I was.
M so badly waiting for sumthing that gets me hooked up from Cover Page to the Last page. Suggestions are more than welcome. Till then, taking a turn from Fiction to Non-Fiction.

I have been wanting to read this- sorry it wasn't as good as you had hoped it would be! A Time to Kill was amazing- so I was expecting the same from this one.
ReplyDeleteHave you read The Glass Castle? It is a memoir and I thought it was interesting from page 1. Or have you read The Secret Life of Cee Cee Wilkes? I thought it was great.

Sorry you weren't as happy as you hoped with this. Did you read the Racketeer? That had a good amount of cat and mouse with the FBI and some good twists throughout. I enjoyed it. My father always claimed the Testament was Grisham's best book.
ReplyDeleteAs you mention you are open to suggestions, I'm going to immodestly suggest (I'm direct published which means I have to be the PR team too) my legal thriller Hallways in the Night. I think if you chose to read it you would be pleasantly surprised and that it might well keep you hooked from start to finish. I would be happy to hear your objective assessment of it. The premise begins when a veteran cop tries to arrest baseball's home run king. The confrontation turns violent, one of them ends up dead, and the rest of the book shows the fallout from the event and culminates in a legal trial.

For the avid readers of court room drama series, this is an interesting pick. In his signature writing style, the description of scene is so elaborate, that makes you feel a part of the real court proceedings.
The characters are interesting and you don’t miss a link.A thick book is usually not my types. But this book keeps you so gripped. Enjoyed it.
